The farm is in a happy geographical position, because
it is on the sea but you can reach Etna in 40 minutes. It is near the main communication routes
(motorway, roads and railway) and so you can easily visit not very far places which offer great interest, such as:
- The gorge of the river Alcantara excavated in the lava stones;
- The woods and ski tracks of Etna;
- The beautiful landscape along the Ionan coast and from the small towns at the foot of Etna;
- Acireale, of cultural interest, famous for its baroque architecture;
- Randazzo, old medieval center
- Taormina, well known holiday resort, with a lot of interesting things;
- Guided excursions by special jeeps to the summit of Etna up to the eruptive craters to feel extraordinary sensations among the ancient lava flows and lunar landscapes. And it is impossible to renounce to the view from the summit, certainly unique and of incomparable beauty.
- Taking a pleasant trip by the local "Circumetnea train" that runs through the small towns situated around Etna.
You can also take one day trips getting to places very important from the archeological and historical
point of view such as the Eolies Isles,
Syracuse, Piazza Armerina, Caltagirone and Agrigento.
It is also interesting following routes to the discovery of Sicilian customs and traditions.
In the nearby Riposto, important for its tourist port, there is an old fish market. Close to
Riposto there is Giarre where you can find the handicraft of wrought iron, copper, pottery and baskets and
the trade of antiques.
The whole area is well known for its sweets among which you can find the "paste d mandorla"
(sweets made with almonds), the "paste di nocciola" (sweets made with hazel nuts), the "granita" (a crushedice drink)
the ice creams and the famous "sicilian cassata" (a special cake with ricotta, special icecream and candid fruit).
In Riposto, on June 29, it is Saint Peter's Day.The Saint is the patron of Riposto and
the protector of fishermen. In of alternate years the Statue is taken in procession onto a fishing-boat surrounded and
followed by small boats, expecially adorned and lit up for the occasion. Beautiful fire works are made at the
end of the Saint's "procession on the sea" when the statue comes back to the port of Riposto.
Furthermore, all year round, village feasts will allow the guests to know the customs and traditions of the
area and also the typical dishes of the rich local gastronomy.
The owners of the farm will be at the guests' disposal for any information on the matter.
